Ibanez SRC6WNF 6 String Electric Bass Guitar Walnut Flat Finish
The Ibanez SRC6 is truly one of the most unique instruments put out by a guitar manufacturer in recent years. The SRC6 combines the electric bass and electric guitar in a way that no other company has attempted, and in my opinion, it is truly the best of both worlds.
Unlike most 6 string electric basses, which are tuned B-E-A-D-G-C from low to high, the SRC6 is tuned E-A-D-G-B-E-exactly as a guitar would be tuned, but pitched one octave lower. This makes for an extremely easy transition for guitarists looking to pick up the electric bass and play with the fluency they have already gained on the electric guitar.
To aid in this transition, Ibanez has spaced the strings much more closely than one would find on an electric bass-10mm apart as opposed to 17mm or so as you might find on an electric bass. This is just far enough apart to play finger style bass, and close enough together to make it feel as comfortable as an electric guitar. The SRC6 has a 30" scale length, rather than the standard 34" long scale neck-yet another feature that adds to its playability-making it feel more like a baritone guitar than a bass.
The neck on the instrument is Jatoba and Bubinga and the body is mahogany. This combination of woods, in my opinion, allows for quite a warm, solid, resonant sound.
Passive EMG pickups and an active on-board EQ make this bass guitar sound truly amazing. While testing the instrument out, I found that playing chords as you would on the guitar sounded just as good as playing walking basslines. The SRC6 really does it all. It functions as a bass, a guitar, and everything in between.
For 25 years the SR has given bass players a modern alternative. With its continued popularity, Ibanez is constantly endeavoring to answer the wider needs of a variety of players, at a variety of budgets. But no matter what the specs, the heart is the same-SR continues to excite with its smooth, fast neck, lightweight body, and perfectly matched electronics.

5pc SR-6 Jatoba/Bubinga Bolt-On Neck- The tension on a 6-string bass neck is considerable. With this in mind Ibanez has given the SR Crossover a 5-piece Jatoba/Bubinga bolt-on neck for superior tone and excellent stability. Jatoba is a hardwood, known for its rigid strength and Bubinga is known for it's mellow, round tone. Together they create a the perfect neck for this unique instrument.
30" Neck Scale- Basses with a scale of 34" are known as "long-scale". Following in the tradition of the 6-string bass of the 60’s, the SR Crossover features a 30" scale Bolt-on neck, for what is commonly known as a "short scale" bass. This is highly desirable for guitarists who sometimes double as bass players. (The shorter scale having a feel closer to that of an electric guitar.)
Tuning- The SR Crossover is tuned like a guitar, E to E, only an octave lower, like a bass. This opens up a myriad of creative options for the daring to explore.
Tight End bridge- Hybrid instrument that it is, the SR Crossover straddles the line between bass and guitar. Originally designed for guitars, this smooth, low profile bridge allows for tighter string alignment and a thinner fretboard. It features saddles that firmly lock on the base plate (to maximize string vibration transmitted to the body) and simple saddle height and intonation adjustments for easy setups.
EMG 35HZ Pickups- The 35HZ Passive Pickup features a dual-coil design for low noise and plenty of output. Using EMG's "CS" design (Ceramic and Steel), this pickup has the punch and fullness of older passive designs along with added brightness for a better-defined tone. EMGHZ features solid bar poles that cover the entire width of the strings so it works great on the 6-string bass.
EBQ-IIID 3-Band EQ- The EQB-IIID is our latest refinement on the concept of simple, straightforward, no-nonsense EQ control. The Boost and Cut for the Mid Control are each centered on slightly different frequencies, an innovation that delivers a preset range of the most favorable bass tones.
